Throwing Sand in the Ocean

In between visitors and chores up at the lake one weekend, I got a chance to go down to the beach with Odin for about an hour on Sunday. The wind had died down and it was a beautiful day. But, the water was still too cold for swimming, so we spent our time finding rocks and shells and scooping sand.

Odin has been mildly obsessed with throwing rocks, and was scolded by his cousin Jacob for throwing rocks at the car on Saturday (fortunately his throwing arm isn't strong enough to do any real damage yet), so when we got to the beach, he was pretty happy to be given free rein to throw rocks in the ocean (lake). After awhile, he decided to get creative and use his shovel to see if he could throw sand in the ocean, too, and really seemed to enjoy the larger splash the sand made as it hit the water, and watching the sand melt back into the water.

When the sand didn't make it quite all the way in the water, he was kind of upset, so I let him stand in the water to make sure he could toss all of his sand in the ocean. Eventually, he wanted to walk around a bit in the water, and since he was having trouble walking and holding his shorts up out of the water at the same time, we took his shorts off (he wanted to take his underpants off, too, but I though that was unnecessary).

So, there he was, in his t-shirt and underpants, standing in the water and throwing sand in the ocean. A lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
