Pointing and Other Baby Signs

Jasper has become an avid pointer. He clearly knows what he wants even though he can't use his words to tell us yet, so he has entered the grunting and pointing phase. He's like a little explorer at the helm as we carry him through the house, eyes forward, arm out and finger pointed in the general direction of wherever whatever it is that he wants usually resides.

Fortunately, he does know a few other gestures; if we successfully guess what he wants and ask him (for example, do you want some milk?), he responds with a vigorous head nod. He has moved beyond the simple "all done" baby sign (both hands waving in the air) to either a vigorous all done (both hands flailing in the air) or simply picking up each piece of food and dropping it on the floor or wiping all his food onto the floor.

We need to get faster at getting him away from his food when he's done with it; in the meantime, he's pretty proud of himself for playing tricks on us.
